Why Reddit Leaks Happen (And Why They're Fixable)
Reddit hosts thousands of NSFW subreddits, and some exist purely to share stolen creator content. Each subreddit has its own moderators, so there's no single person policing everything. That sounds bad, but here's the thing: it doesn't matter. You're not asking moderators to remove your content — you're going through Reddit's legal team, and they don't care what the mods think.
Reddit is one of the most responsive platforms we work with. Unlike Telegram, which ignores half your requests, or offshore leak sites that require you to hunt down their hosting provider, Reddit has a straightforward DMCA process and actually follows through. Our success rate on Reddit takedowns is above 95%.
Tip
Reddit's DMCA compliance is unusually good compared to other platforms. If you're dealing with leaks across multiple sites, start with Reddit — you'll see results fast, and that momentum helps when you tackle harder platforms next.
Find Where Your Content Was Posted
Before you can file anything, you need URLs. Here's how to hunt them down.
Search Reddit directly:
- Put your creator name in quotes:
"yourcreatorname" - Filter by subreddit:
subreddit:NSFWleaks "yourcreatorname" - Try variations — misspellings, abbreviations, your real name if it's been connected to your creator account
Search via Google (often more thorough than Reddit's own search):
site:reddit.com "yourcreatorname"site:reddit.com "yourcreatorname" onlyfans
Check known leak subreddits manually. Subreddits like r/OnlyFansLeaks or r/FanslyContent pop up constantly. They get banned and reappear under slightly different names. Spend 10 minutes browsing the obvious ones — you might find posts that search didn't surface.
Warning
Don't skip misspelling checks. Leakers intentionally alter your name to dodge automated detection — swapping letters, adding underscores, using nicknames. A quick search for two or three variations can uncover posts you'd otherwise miss entirely.
Document Everything Before You File
You need three things for every post you want removed: the Reddit URL, a screenshot of the post, and proof you own the original content.
For each infringing post, save:
- The direct link to the Reddit post (not just the subreddit)
- A full screenshot showing the post title, content, the username who posted it, and which subreddit it's in
- The date it was posted
- A link or screenshot of your original content on OnlyFans/Fansly/etc., ideally with a visible upload date
Keep a simple spreadsheet — one row per post. When you're filing against 20+ posts at once (which is common), a tracking sheet saves you from losing your place or accidentally submitting the same URL twice.
File the DMCA Takedown
You have two options here: the web form or email. Both work. We use both depending on the situation.
Option 1: Reddit's Copyright Report Form
Go to Reddit's copyright report form and select:
- Copyright Issue
- I found content that infringes my copyright
Fill in your contact details, describe the original work, paste the infringing URLs, sign the good faith declaration, and submit. That's it.
This form works well for small batches — up to about 10 posts at a time. For larger volumes, email tends to be more practical.
Option 2: Email [email protected]
For bulk takedowns or if you want a paper trail, email is better. Here's a template:
Subject: DMCA Takedown Request – Copyright Infringement
To whom it may concern,
I am the copyright owner of the content described below. It has been shared on Reddit without my authorization.
Original content:
[Describe your content — include the platform where it was originally published and the upload date]
Infringing URLs:
- [Reddit post URL 1]
- [Reddit post URL 2]
- [Reddit post URL 3]
I have a good faith belief that this use is not authorized by me, my agent, or the law. The information in this notice is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, I am authorized to act on behalf of the copyright holder.
[Your Full Name]
[Your Email Address]
In our experience, Reddit typically acts on email requests within 1-3 business days. The form is slightly faster — usually under 48 hours.
What Happens After You File
Reddit doesn't always send a confirmation, so don't panic if your inbox is quiet. Here's what to expect:
Within 24-48 hours (form) or 1-3 days (email), the infringing posts should be removed. Go back and check each URL you submitted. Removed posts will show a "This content has been removed" message or a 404.
If posts are still up after 5 business days, follow up by replying to your original email with the unresolved URLs. Keep it short — just reference the original request date and list what's still live. We've never had a Reddit takedown fully ignored, though occasionally a post slips through and needs a second nudge.
When the same content gets reposted after removal (and it will, sometimes within hours), you need to file a new DMCA for the new URLs. Reddit won't proactively block re-uploads. This is where manual takedowns become exhausting and an automated service starts paying for itself.
Dealing with Private Subreddits
Some leaks happen in private or invite-only subreddits, which makes things harder since you can't see or link to specific posts.
What you can do:
- Document the subreddit's existence through public references — other posts linking to it, screenshots from users who have access, or invite links shared elsewhere
- Report the subreddit itself to Reddit, explaining that it exists to share stolen copyrighted content
- If you can get access (or have a friend who can), screenshot the infringing posts and include those URLs in your DMCA
Private subreddits aren't untouchable. Reddit can and does ban entire subreddits when they receive multiple copyright complaints. It just takes a bit more effort to build the case.
Real Results: What a Bulk Reddit Takedown Looks Like
One of our clients came to us after discovering her content had spread across multiple NSFW subreddits over several months. We ran a scan and found over 130 infringing posts spread across 6 subreddits.
We filed takedowns in waves — starting with the subreddits that had the most subscribers and the most recent posts, since those were driving the most traffic. Within the first week, Reddit had removed about 80 posts. By the end of week two, the count was above 180 (because we kept finding new ones as we went). Three of the six subreddits were permanently banned by Reddit after receiving repeated DMCA complaints.
The whole process took about three weeks from first scan to cleanup. That's pretty typical for a case of this size.
When Manual Takedowns Aren't Enough
Filing a few DMCAs yourself is doable. Filing them every week because content keeps resurfacing? That's a second job.
SuppressLeak automates the entire process:
- We scan Reddit continuously to detect new leaks as they appear
- DMCA takedowns are generated and submitted automatically
- You track everything from your dashboard — what was found, what's been filed, what's been removed
- Average removal time: 24-72 hours
- We handle stubborn cases, including private subreddits and repeat offenders
If you're spending hours every week searching Reddit and filing forms, it might be time to let the system handle it.
